First Light
Castlefield New Art Spaces, Warrington, UK, 22 May - 04 Jul 2021
In 2020, final year students have had to forgo the experience of the degree show – the crowning event after three years of study. This exhibition, hosted by Castlefield Gallery New Art Spaces, features 13 emerging photographers that together reflect the richness and diversity of photography as an artistic medium in the 21st century.
The project aimed to respond positively to this challenging landscape for new graduates in the region and continue its commitment to emerging photographic talent.
First Light is curated by Mario Popham (Waterside’s visual arts coordinator) and Polly Palmirini (Museum of Half Truths). Castlefield Gallery’s New Art Spaces in Warrington was selected as the venue for the exhibition, with generous support from Culture Warrington and Warrington Council.
